Concrete Blockwork Render System

Concrete Blockwork Substrate Silicone or Acrylic Finish
System Build-Up

Layer-by-layer system specification

The Concrete Blockwork Render System is Licata's render specification for application over concrete blockwork substrates. An optional substrate primer is available where absorption needs to be controlled, and a levelling coat can be applied where the block face is uneven.

Raso W160 or Raso Top 800 can be specified as the basecoat. The finish can be Siloxan Color silicone render or Lerici acrylic render depending on performance and budget requirements.

Products

1
Layer 1: Substrate
Concrete Blockwork
Concrete blockwork, existing or new. Must be structurally sound, clean and free from contamination, organic growth and loose material. Dense concrete blocks may benefit from a substrate primer to improve adhesion.
Substrate Primer Optional
Acril Primer or Aggrappante LG
Acril Primer is an acrylic bonding primer suitable for smooth or low-absorption concrete block surfaces. Aggrappante LG is a spatterdash bonding agent for dense or smooth blocks where mechanical adhesion is required. Apply and allow to dry before the levelling coat or basecoat.
2
Layer 2: Levelling Coat Optional
Licacem 200
Where the concrete blockwork face is uneven, Licacem 200 is applied to build up low areas and create a flat, uniform surface for the basecoat. Apply to areas requiring levelling and allow to cure fully before the basecoat is applied.

Layer 3: Basecoat
Raso W160 or Raso Top 800
Raso W160 is a lightweight polymer-modified basecoat suited to standard conditions. Raso Top 800 is a higher-performance polymer-modified basecoat for more demanding applications. Apply to the required thickness and embed the fibreglass mesh whilst still fresh.
4
Layer 4: Reinforcement
Fibreglass Mesh
Alkali-resistant fibreglass reinforcement mesh, embedded into the fresh basecoat. Minimum 100mm laps at all joints. Apply additional diagonal mesh at all openings and corners to prevent cracking.
5
Layer 5: Topcoat Primer
Isolante LG
Silicone-based topcoat primer, applied over the fully cured basecoat to consolidate the surface and provide uniform, controlled absorption for the render finish.

Layer 6: Render Finish
Siloxan Color or Lerici
Siloxan Color silicone render: highly water-repellent, breathable, anti-mould, with a wide colour range. Lerici acrylic render: cost-effective and durable, with a wide range of textures and colours.
