Features & Benefits

Why specify Raso Top 800 EWI adhesive?

BBA, KIWA & ETA Certified EWI Adhesive

Raso Top 800 is the EWI adhesive used in Licata's BBA and KIWA certified external wall insulation systems. ETA certified to ETAG 004 — the European standard for external thermal insulation composite systems.

Class A1 Reaction to Fire

This EWI adhesive achieves a Class A1 reaction to fire classification — the highest possible rating, making it suitable for use in systems on higher-risk residential buildings where non-combustible materials are required.

High Adhesion on All Substrates

Specific additives give this EWI adhesive excellent adhesion on virtually all common construction substrates — including low-absorption surfaces — whether new or existing.

Dual-Function — EWI Adhesive & Render Basecoat

Raso Top 800 functions as both an EWI adhesive for bonding insulation panels and a reinforced render basecoat for skim coating — reducing the number of products needed on site.

Regulating up to 10mm per Coat

Variable application thickness of 1–10mm per coat makes this EWI adhesive ideal as a regulating render basecoat on uneven surfaces — restoring flatness before the decorative finish is applied.

Compatible with Natural Breathable Panels

Unlike many EWI adhesives, Raso Top 800 is specified for use with natural breathable insulation including wood fibre and cork panels — as well as EPS and mineral wool systems.

Product Description

Raso Top 800 — EWI Adhesive & Render Basecoat

Raso Top 800 is Licata's EWI adhesive and render basecoat — a fibre-reinforced mineral adhesive and skim coat manufactured with hydraulic binders, polymer-modified resins, selected inert materials and latest-generation additives. It is specifically designed for bonding and skim coating thermal insulation panels in ETAG 004 external wall insulation systems such as licataTHERM.

As an EWI adhesive, Raso Top 800 delivers excellent adhesion on any traditional substrate — including surfaces with very low absorption — making it equally suited to new build and facade restoration work. As a render basecoat, the uniform particle size provides an outstanding styling finish that accepts silicone, acrylic, siloxane and silicate decorative coatings without further preparation.

Raso Top 800 EWI adhesive achieves a Class A1 reaction to fire classification and is included in Licata's BBA and KIWA certified EWI systems — making it the specified EWI adhesive for projects requiring certified non-combustible external wall insulation.

Mixing

How to mix this EWI adhesive

1
Substrate preparation: Remove dust, loose or crumbling parts and clean thoroughly — free of detergents, oils, greases, waxes, gypsum and salt. Remove protective film from insulation panels before applying the EWI adhesive.
2
Mixing water: Use 5.25–5.75 litres of clean water per 25kg bag. Pour the EWI adhesive into a clean tub containing three quarters of the water.
3
Mixing: Mix for around 3 minutes at low speed with a mixer, gradually adding the remaining water until an even, lump-free thixotropic mixture is achieved. Leave to rest for a few minutes before use.
4
Important: Do not split bags for partial mixes. Product stored in opened bags may no longer meet the technical specification. Use only clean water — no other additions.
Do not apply this EWI adhesive if there is a film of water on the surface, if cement substrates are completely dry, or in extreme conditions such as walls exposed to midday sun or frozen surfaces. Temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C throughout application and curing.
Application

Applying the EWI adhesive and render basecoat

1
Bonding on unrendered surfaces: Wet the substrate before application. Apply the EWI adhesive in 2–3 rings in the middle of the panel and along the perimeter.
2
Bonding on rendered or flat surfaces: Apply this EWI adhesive on a full bed using a toothed trowel.
3
Render basecoat — first coat: Apply evenly and flat using a smooth trowel, embedding the licataTHERM 160 reinforcement mesh in vertical strips with joints overlapping by at least 10cm.
4
Render basecoat — second coat: Apply at least 24 hours after the first coat, covering the reinforcement mesh entirely. Skim with a sponge float as the render basecoat begins to dry.
5
Thicknesses over 10mm: Apply an additional coat onto the fully hardened first coat. Do not attempt to achieve more than 10mm per coat in a single pass.
FAQs

EWI adhesive — frequently asked questions

An EWI adhesive is the cementitious product used to bond insulation panels to the external wall in an external wall insulation system. A high-performance EWI adhesive like Raso Top 800 also functions as a render basecoat — applied over the insulation panels with a reinforcement mesh embedded into it — providing structural strength and crack resistance before the decorative render finish is applied.
Yes. Raso Top 800 is the specified EWI adhesive in Licata's BBA and KIWA certified external wall insulation systems. It is also ETA certified to ETAG 004 — the European technical standard for external thermal insulation composite systems. Using a certified EWI adhesive as part of a certified system ensures the installation meets building regulations and warranty requirements.
Raso Top 800 EWI adhesive achieves a Class A1 reaction to fire classification under EN 13501-1 — the highest possible fire rating. This makes it suitable for use in external wall insulation systems on buildings of all heights, including those subject to the more stringent fire safety requirements that apply to higher-risk residential buildings.
Yes. Raso Top 800 EWI adhesive is suitable for use with EPS, graphite EPS, rock wool, glass wool and natural breathable panels including wood fibre and cork — covering the full range of insulation types used in licataTHERM external wall insulation systems.
Raso Top 800 render basecoat provides an ideal substrate for all Licata decorative render finishes — including Siloxan Color silicone render, Lerici acrylic render, Silsan Color acryl-siloxane coating and Licata Sil silicate coating. The uniform particle size means decorative coatings can be applied directly without further preparation of the render basecoat surface.
