CUPACLAD® natural slate rainscreen cladding
A natural slate rainscreen cladding system offering solutions from traditional to contemporary, supplied in the UK by Licata Building Systems with full technical support from specification to site.
Natural slate cladding, reinvented for the modern facade
CUPACLAD is a natural slate rainscreen cladding system which offers a range of cladding solutions, from traditional to contemporary, giving architects and specifiers a wide choice to suit any individual design.
The use of high durability tectonic slate, innovative fastening and the efficiency of the rainscreen principle make CUPACLAD an extremely competitive and sustainable alternative for cladding any facade. The systems have been designed to meet the requirements of new architectural trends, which demand more sustainable and energy-efficient buildings.
Licata Building Systems is a UK distributor for CUPACLAD, supplying the full range of systems alongside the technical support, specification advice and documentation your project needs.
Sustainable. Efficient. Modern.
Sustainable
Unlike artificial products, natural slate is handcrafted by skilled craftsmen, with no chemical products or additional treatment required. It is only subject to extraction and mechanical transformation, with no chemical or heating processes involved as with alternative materials.
Efficient
CUPACLAD systems are quick and easy to install by any facade contractor. Once installed, the slate is fixed in a safe manner and no maintenance is needed. Its colour and properties remain unchanged over the years.
Modern
There is huge variety in the design possibilities of natural slate. The systems are light and versatile, can be adapted to any surface, and redefine the aesthetics of slate facades with formats created alongside Danish architects.
Four systems, two fixing methods
CUPACLAD has developed a comprehensive suite of systems offering invisible fixings under the CUPACLAD 101 range and visible stainless steel fixings under CUPACLAD 201. The variety of designs and styles means it can be adapted to any individual project.
Invisible fixing
Its simple and balanced design puts the texture and sheen of natural slate right to the fore.

Rainscreen cladding is now considered the most efficient system for construction envelope purposes. The combination of a ventilated system together with insulation gives numerous advantages in thermal and acoustic performance, avoiding thermal bridges and condensation issues, and it works as a natural complement to external wall insulation.
Energy savings
Thermal efficiency is increased through the cooling effect in summer and greater heat retention in winter.
Elimination of humidity
Rainwater penetration is greatly reduced and moisture is removed through constant ventilation, reducing the risk of condensation.
Reduced structural movement
The air cavity moderates temperature variation, resulting in less pronounced structural movement and reducing the risk of cracking.
Durability
The cladding material is kept dry by continuous ventilation. Humidity-related issues such as efflorescence are reduced, extending the life of the installation.
Proven where it matters
CUPACLAD is built on tectonic slate with more than 100 years of durability, offering high resistance and waterproof performance with no additional treatment required over its life.
BBA certified
CUPACLAD systems are certified by the British Board of Agrément, with impact resistance and UK wind load performance proven in testing carried out for BBA approval.
A1 non-combustible
Natural slate is classified A1, the highest reaction to fire classification under European standard EN 13501-1, making CUPACLAD a non-combustible cladding solution as certified by the manufacturer.
The ecological option for facade cladding
A life cycle analysis, which assesses the overall environmental impact of a product, confirms CUPACLAD as the ecological option for facade cladding, thanks to the use of natural slate instead of prefabricated products.
Natural slate is only subject to extraction and mechanical transformation. There are no chemical or heating processes involved, as there are with alternative cladding materials. As a rainscreen working alongside external insulation, it reduces energy consumption throughout the life of the building, helping to keep it cool in summer and temperate in winter.
What drives the cost of CUPACLAD slate cladding
CUPACLAD slate cladding is priced per square metre of facade, but the rate varies considerably by project. The factors below have the largest effect on the installed cost, and getting them settled early gives you a realistic figure rather than a range.
We will price a CUPACLAD facade from drawings or an area schedule. Send the building type, location, approximate facade area and the system you have in mind, and we will come back with a material rate and the full specification. Speak to our technical team or send an enquiry.
