Aggrappante LG — Rendering Primer for Substrate Preparation

Aggrappante LG is Licata's universal rendering primer and substrate primer — a pigmented, acrylic resin-based primer with natural silica inert fillers. It is specifically designed as a bridging primer on smooth surfaces ahead of rendering or skim coating cycles.

On smooth, low-absorption substrates such as vibrated concrete panels, this rendering primer creates a rough, textured surface that gives render and skim coatings the mechanical key they need to bond reliably. On absorbent substrates, Aggrappante LG acts as a substrate primer that regulates surface absorption — preventing the burn that occurs when a porous substrate draws water too rapidly from the applied render mix.

Aggrappante LG rendering primer is supplied ready to use and can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray. It is recommended for use on fully cured substrates — a minimum curing time of four weeks is advised before application of this substrate primer.

How to apply Aggrappante LG rendering primer

Substrate preparation: Mechanically remove any flaking or detaching areas. Clean all surfaces thoroughly — free of dust, detergents, oils, greases and other contaminants. The substrate must be fully cured before applying this rendering primer — a minimum of four weeks is recommended.

Preparing the rendering primer: Aggrappante LG is ready to use. If required, it can be diluted with up to 10% clean water. Mix for 2–3 minutes at low speed with a drill mixer before use to ensure a smooth, even consistency.

Application: Apply by brush, roller or airless spray, ensuring 100% coverage of the surface. The pale blue pigment makes it easy to identify any missed areas. Do not add other materials to the rendering primer as this will alter its properties.

Overcoating: In ideal conditions this substrate primer is ready for subsequent rendering or skim coating after 1–2 hours at +20°C. Check that a surface film has not formed before applying the render — particularly in adverse weather conditions such as strong wind or high temperatures.

Do not apply this rendering primer on wet surfaces, substrates with a film of water, or in extreme conditions such as direct strong sunlight or frost. Store containers away from direct sunlight and above +5°C. Wash tools with water immediately after use.

A rendering primer serves two important functions. On smooth or low-absorption substrates such as concrete, a rendering primer like Aggrappante LG creates a textured surface that gives the render mechanical grip — without it, render applied to smooth concrete can delaminate. On absorbent substrates, a substrate primer regulates absorption, preventing the substrate from drawing water too quickly from the render mix and causing burn or inconsistent drying.

Aggrappante LG rendering primer is touch dry within 1–2 hours at +20°C and 70% relative humidity. Rendering or skim coating can proceed once the substrate primer is sufficiently cured. In adverse conditions — strong wind, high temperatures or low humidity — drying times may be shorter, so check the surface has not formed a skin before applying the render.

Yes. Aggrappante LG substrate primer is suitable for use on plasterboard as well as smooth concrete, absorbent walls and particleboard. For applications on substrate types not listed in the technical data sheet, contact the Licata technical team for advice on suitability.

No — Aggrappante LG rendering primer is supplied ready to use. It can be diluted with up to 10% clean water if required for application conditions, but should not be diluted beyond this as doing so will reduce its bonding and absorption-regulating properties. Do not add any other materials to the rendering primer.
