Layer-by-layer system specification

The Interior Lime System is Licata's complete interior specification, from Romana Intonaco NHL5 base plaster through to a final Idrosil Interior mineral silicate paint finish. The system includes Romana Specular polished lime plaster as a decorative intermediate layer, giving the wall a refined, burnished mineral surface before the silicate primer and paint are applied.

Every layer in this system is mineral-based and vapour permeable, maintaining the full breathability of the lime substrate throughout. The combination of polished lime and silicate paint delivers a high-quality interior finish that is anti-mould, low-VOC and suitable for sensitive environments including bedrooms, schools and healthcare spaces.

Layer 1
Substrate
Masonry, block or existing plaster substrate, clean, sound and free from loose material. Dampen before applying base plaster.

Layer 2: Base Plaster
Romana Intonaco
NHL5 natural hydraulic lime base plaster, the structural render coat. Apply in one or more coats to achieve the required thickness and flatness. Allow to cure before applying the skim coat.

Layer 3: Skim Plaster
Colorado Spugnato
Natural lime skim coat, applied over the cured Romana Intonaco base to provide a flat, even surface for the polished lime finish. Float to a smooth, uniform face before the Romana Specular is applied.

Layer 4: Polished Lime Finish
Romana Specular
Venetian polished lime plaster, applied over Colorado Spugnato and burnished whilst still green to achieve a smooth, reflective mineral surface. Provides the high-quality decorative base for the silicate primer and paint layers above.

Layer 5: Primer
Sil Primer
Transparent potassium silicate primer, consolidating the Romana Specular surface and provides a uniform, controlled absorption base for the Idrosil Interior paint. Limits uneven absorption that would otherwise cause patchy drying on the finish coat.

Layer 6: Paint Finish
Idrosil Interior
Mineral interior silicate paint. DIN 18363 certified, highly breathable, odourless and ultra-low VOC. Apply in two cross-over coats by brush or roller. Available in the full Pastello interior colour range.
