Idrosil Interior - Interior Silicate Paint

Mineral interior silicate paint — matt, highly breathable, odourless, DIN 18363 compliant, Pastello colour range

Idrosil Interior Silicate Paint by Licata

Idrosil Interior is a mineral interior silicate paint from Licata — based on potassium silicates in aqueous dispersion, compliant with DIN 18363. This interior silicate paint bonds chemically with the mineral substrate through silicatisation, combining exceptional vapour permeability with excellent whiteness and good water repellency. Mineral, odourless and ultra-low VOC — suitable for professional and DIY use. Pigmentable to the full Pastello colour chart.

Features & Benefits

Why specify Idrosil Interior silicate paint?

Silicatisation — Chemical Bond with Substrate

Idrosil Interior silicate paint reacts chemically with the mineral substrate through a natural process called silicatisation — creating an insoluble bond rather than a surface film. Unlike organic emulsion paints, it cannot peel, blister or delaminate over time.

Very High Breathability — Healthy Interiors

The potassium silicate base delivers exceptional vapour permeability — moisture from inside the room passes freely through the paint film and wall, preventing condensation and associated mould growth. Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms and any space with high humidity.

Mineral, Odourless & Ultra-Low VOC

A fully mineral, odourless product with VOC content below 30g/L (DIN 18363, Cat A/a) — suitable for use in occupied spaces, nurseries, schools and healthcare environments where indoor air quality is a priority.

Professional & DIY Use

Formulated for professional applicators but equally suitable for DIY use — the fine consistency and workability by brush or roller make it practical for direct application on domestic interior walls and ceilings.

Pastello Colour Range

Idrosil Interior silicate paint can be tinted to the full Pastello colour chart — a comprehensive range of interior tones. Supplied in white and tinted to order, with good touch-up capability for maintenance and repair.

Fine Consistency — Brush, Roller or Airless

Fine particle size of <100 microns ensures smooth, even application by brush, roller or airless spray — providing versatility across different interior environments and project sizes.

Product Description

Idrosil Interior — Mineral Interior Silicate Paint

Idrosil Interior is Licata's mineral interior silicate paint — a matt-finish wall and ceiling paint based on potassium silicates in aqueous dispersion, compliant with DIN 18363. It delivers the same chemical silicatisation bonding as the exterior version but is specifically formulated for interior environments, with dilution rates optimised for brush and roller application on walls and ceilings.

As a fully mineral product, Idrosil Interior is odourless and ultra-low VOC — well suited to occupied residential and commercial interiors where low emissions are required. Its very high vapour permeability makes it the preferred interior silicate paint for rooms prone to condensation, and for restoring breathable historic plaster and lime finishes.

Interior vs Exterior — which do I need?
Interior Idrosil Interior — matt finish, optimised for indoor environments, Pastello colour range, brush/roller application, 15–20% dilution.
Exterior Idrosil Exterior — ultra-matt finish, DIN 18363 exterior spec, airless compatible, licatasystemcolors EXTERIOR range, 20–25% dilution.
Recommended Primers
Sil Primer — new or absorbent substrates  ·  Primer Ocram — overpainting medium/strong colours  ·  Sil Primer required over organic-based existing paint
Compatible Substrates

Where to use this interior silicate paint

Lime-based finishing plasters
Cement-based finishing plasters
Gypsum surfaces (prime first if very low absorption)
Existing painted surfaces (check adhesion, clean thoroughly)
Concrete

Apply to cured substrates only — minimum 4 weeks. For existing organic-based painted surfaces, Sil Primer as a bonding bridge is always required before applying this interior silicate paint.

Application — Dilution Rates
Brush or roller: 15% water 1st coat, 20% 2nd coat  ·  Minimum 3 hours between coats  ·  Full cure: 5–6 hours

Preparation

Preparing for application

1
Substrate preparation: Remove all loose or flaking material mechanically. Repair small areas with suitable products to restore flatness. Clean all surfaces of dust, detergent residues, oils and mineral greases.
2
Priming: Apply Sil Primer on new or particularly absorbent substrates. Apply Primer Ocram when overpainting medium or strong existing colours. For existing organic-based painted surfaces, Sil Primer as a bonding bridge is always required.
3
Mixing and dilution: Dilute with clean water — 15% for the first coat, 20% for the second coat. Mix for 2–3 minutes at low speed until smooth and uniform before applying.
4
Check conditions: Confirm ambient and substrate temperatures are between +5°C and +30°C with maximum 70% relative humidity. Do not apply on wet, frozen or frost-affected substrates or walls in direct sunlight.
Application

Applying Idrosil Interior silicate paint

1
Apply in cross-over coats: Apply by brush or roller in one or more cross-over coats until the desired coverage and finish are achieved. Allow at least 3 hours between coats at 20°C.
2
Monitor on absorbent surfaces: Highly absorbent substrates or strong air currents can significantly reduce open time. Constantly check that a surface film does not form prematurely during application.
3
Touch-up capability: Idrosil Interior has good touch-up capability — useful for maintenance and repair work on previously painted surfaces within the same colour specification.
4
Check colour before applying: Always verify the colour matches the specification before starting. Clean tools with water immediately after use while the paint is still fresh.
Do not apply on frozen, thawing or wet substrates, or walls in direct sunlight. Temperature must be between +5°C and +30°C. Note: maximum application temperature is 30°C for interior — lower than the 35°C permitted for the exterior version.
