Layer-by-layer system specification

The Lime System with Micro Coating delivers a premium exterior mineral finish. Romana Intonaco NHL5 base plaster and Colorado Spugnato skim coat provide the breathable lime substrate, while Sil Primer and Idrosil Exterior complete the system with a DIN 18363 certified potassium silicate micro-coating.

Idrosil Exterior bonds chemically with the primed mineral surface through silicatisation, creating a durable, ultra-matt, highly breathable decorative finish that will not peel or film-form over time. The complete system is fully vapour-permeable from substrate to topcoat, making it ideal for heritage buildings, solid wall construction and any application where wall breathability must be maintained.

Layer 1

Substrate

Masonry, stone or block substrate, clean, sound and free from loose material. Dampen before applying base plaster to prevent rapid suction.

Layer 2: Base Plaster

Romana Intonaco

NHL5 natural hydraulic lime base plaster, the structural render coat. Apply in one or more coats as required. Allow to cure fully before applying the skim coat.

Layer 3: Skim Plaster

Colorado Spugnato

Natural lime skim coat, providing a flat, even mineral surface for subsequent silicate coating layers. Allow to cure to a minimum of 4 weeks before applying Sil Primer.

Sil Primer

Transparent potassium silicate primer, consolidating the Colorado Spugnato surface and controls absorption, ensuring even application and full coverage of the Idrosil Exterior micro-coating. Apply in a single coat and allow to dry before topcoating.

Layer 5: Silicate Micro-Coating

Idrosil Exterior

DIN 18363 certified potassium silicate exterior micro-coating: ultra-matt, highly breathable, water-repellent and odourless. Bonds chemically with the primed mineral surface. Apply in two or more cross-over coats by brush, roller or airless spray. Available across the full licatasystemcolors EXTERIOR colour range.
