Layer-by-layer system specification

The Basic Lime System is Licata's standard exterior lime render specification: a three-product stack suitable for new build and renovation work on masonry, stone and block substrates. Romana Intonaco NHL5 base plaster provides the structural render coat, Colorado Spugnato delivers the decorative sponge-finish lime render top coat, and Hidro Rep provides water-repellent surface protection whilst preserving the breathability of the full system.

All three products are natural lime-based, so the system maintains full vapour permeability throughout, making it suitable for heritage substrates and any application where breathability is essential.

Substrate
Masonry, stone or block substrate, clean, sound and free from loose material, dust and contamination. Dampen the substrate before applying the base plaster to prevent rapid suction.

Layer 2: Base Plaster
Romana Intonaco
NHL5 natural hydraulic lime base plaster, the structural render coat. Provides the foundation for subsequent finish coats. Apply in one or more coats as required by the substrate condition and desired total thickness. Allow to cure before applying the finish coat.

Layer 3: Finishing Plaster
Colorado Spugnato
Natural lime render finish coat, producing a classic sponge-textured decorative finish. Apply over the cured Romana Intonaco base and finish by sponging whilst still green to achieve the characteristic lime render texture.

Layer 4: Water-Repellent Protection
Hidro Rep
Water-repellent lime surface treatment, applied to the fully cured Colorado Spugnato finish to provide weather protection whilst maintaining full breathability. Penetrates the surface rather than forming a film, preserving the natural mineral appearance.
