Layer-by-layer system specification
This system covers the complete waterproofed tiled build-up for terraces and balconies, from damp substrate primer through elastic cement waterproofing membrane, deformable tile adhesive and grout. The Super S1 S1-class adhesive is essential here: terrace and balcony tiles are subject to thermal cycling and movement that non-deformable adhesives cannot accommodate.

Layer 1
Existing Substrate
Cement screed or concrete, cured, clean and structurally sound. On substrates with residual damp or moisture pressure, apply EpoxyCem TX before the waterproofing membrane.

Layer 2: Damp Substrate Primer
EpoxyCem TX A+B+C
Three-component epoxy-cement primer for damp substrates, applied where residual moisture or vapour pressure is present. Ensures adhesion of the waterproofing membrane to the substrate.

Layer 3: Waterproofing Membrane
Hydro Monoelasto 100
Single-component elastic cement waterproofing membrane, certified UNI EN 14891 and UNI EN 1504-2. Apply in two coats to 3 to 4mm total thickness. Use LicaBand BTS 100 at floor-wall junctions and joints.

Layer 4: Flexible Tile Adhesive
Super S1
C2TE-S1 deformable flexible tile adhesive, certified UNI EN 12004 and UNI EN 12002. Apply once the waterproofing membrane has fully cured (minimum 10 days). S1 deformability accommodates movement in terrace and balcony applications.

Layer 5: Tile
Tile or Ceramic
Lay tiles into the fresh Super S1 adhesive. Allow foot traffic after 24 to 36 hours. Full loading after 14 days.
