Super S1 — Deformable Flexible Tile Adhesive C2TE-S1

Super S1 is Licata's premium deformable flexible tile adhesive — a polymer-modified cementitious adhesive certified to both UNI EN 12004 (C2TE) and UNI EN 12002 (S1). It is the highest-specification tile adhesive in the Licata range, adding deformability to the C2TE performance profile of Flex HM and Flex Plus.

The S1 deformability classification — cross-grain deformation ≥2.5mm — means this flexible tile adhesive can absorb movement from the substrate and thermal expansion from tile size variation, preventing the detachment failures that non-deformable adhesives suffer over time on heated floors and deformable substrates. It is recommended by Licata as the tile adhesive of choice for use over Licata cementitious waterproofing membranes.

Preparation & Mixing

Preparing Super S1 flexible tile adhesive

Substrate preparation: Remove all flaking parts, dust, oils, greases, waxes, chalk and salt. Gypsum plaster, anhydrite screeds and plasterboard must always be primed with Aggrappante LG before applying this flexible tile adhesive.

Mixing: Add 6.5–7 litres of clean water per 25kg bag to ¾ of the water. Mix at low speed for 3 minutes until a thixotropic, uniform, lump-free mixture is achieved. Wait 10 minutes, then remix before applying.

LicaLatex upgrade: Replace mixing water with LicaLatex diluted 1:1 with water to enhance flexibility, adhesion, abrasion resistance, watertightness and chemical resistance — recommended for pools and cold storage.

Application

Applying the flexible tile adhesive

Spread with notched trowel: After 10 minutes rest, remix and spread with a 6–10mm notched trowel. Target at least 65% coverage for indoor walls and 100% for outdoor floors and ceilings.

Maximum 5mm: Do not exceed 5mm application thickness. Level substrates with Floor K300 or LicaPlan before tiling — do not use this flexible tile adhesive to compensate for uneven floors.

Back-buttering: For tiles over 900cm², ceilings, pools, frost-exposed exteriors, heavy-load floors and honed finishes — apply this flexible tile adhesive to both the substrate and the back of the tile to ensure 100% contact.

Check for skinning: Constantly check the adhesive has not skinned over. Freshen by re-spreading if needed. Never add water to skinned adhesive — it forms an anti-adhesive film that prevents bonding.

Never add water to skinned adhesive. Do not apply on wet, dry or extreme condition substrates. For heated floors — allow new screeds to complete at least two full thermal cycles before tiling. Temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C.
