Layer-by-layer system specification

Tiling over underfloor heating requires a deformable S1 tile adhesive, because a non-deformable adhesive cannot absorb the repeated thermal expansion and contraction caused by heating cycles, leading to tile detachment over time. This system pairs either Floor K300 or LicaPlan screed (both underfloor heating compatible) with Super S1 flexible tile adhesive, providing a complete thermally-compatible tiling build-up.

Allow the screed to complete at least two full thermal cycles at full operating temperature before tiling. This allows hygrometric shrinkage to complete and prevents cracking at the adhesive interface.

Layer 1

Base / Existing Structure

Structural concrete or existing floor. Fix edge insulation strips (min. 5mm) along all walls and columns before laying the screed. Install vapour barrier if rising damp is present.

Layer 2: Screed with Heating Coils

Floor K300 or LicaPlan

Both products are underfloor heating compatible. Maintain minimum screed depth over heating coils. Allow at least two full thermal cycles at operating temperature before tiling.

Choose your screed

Floor K300 Self-levelling compound. 3 to 40mm, walkable in 4 hours, tilable in 24 hours. Best for thinner builds and fast programmes.

LicaPlan Traditional floor screed. 3 to 6cm, floating or bonded. Min. 3cm over UFH panel castellations. Best for thicker builds and standard programmes.

Layer 3: Flexible Tile Adhesive

Super S1

C2TE-S1 deformable flexible tile adhesive. The S1 classification absorbs thermal movement from heating cycles. Apply at 2 to 5mm with a 6 to 10mm notched trowel. Back-butter tiles over 900cm².

Layer 4: Tile

Ceramic or Stone

All tile types: ceramic, porcelain and stone. Stone and marble particularly benefit from thermal mass when installed over underfloor heating. Allow foot traffic after 24 to 36 hours.

Layer 5: Grout

FugaTop Grout

Select FugaTop 0_8 or FugaTop 3_20 based on tile format and joint width specification.
