Overview

A versatile A1 non-combustible building board

The Licata Multi Purpose Fibre Cement Board is an autoclaved, cellulose-reinforced cement building board offering excellent strength, weathering and acoustic properties. It is moisture, fire and termite resistant, making it suitable for residential, commercial and industrial use, both indoors and out.

Available in 8mm and 12mm, it is light in weight and easy to carry, simple to cut and install, and offers high impact resistance. It is a preferred building board for prefabricated and steel frame construction, and works as a sheathing or backer board across floors, roofs and wet areas.

As an A1 classified board, it is the specified non-combustible sheathing for Licata EWI systems on steel frame and timber frame construction.

The Basics

What is fibre cement?

Fibre cement, sometimes called fibre reinforced cement, is a composite building material made from cement reinforced with cellulose fibre. It has been used in construction for decades and is valued for combining the strength and fire resistance of cement with improved workability and impact resistance.

Licata fibre cement board is non-combustible, highly water resistant, rot resistant, breathable and UV resistant, so it performs reliably in the demanding and often damp conditions of the UK climate.

Fire Performance

A1 non-combustible, the highest reaction to fire classification

The Licata Fibre Cement Board is classified A1 non-combustible to EN 13501-1, confirming it makes no contribution to fire and produces no toxic gas in the event of a fire. A1 is the highest possible reaction to fire classification under the European system.

This makes it the specified sheathing board for buildings over 11 metres, and for projects where the Building Safety Act, Part B or client requirements restrict the use of combustible materials in the external wall. It is the sheathing board used in Licata mineral wool EWI systems on steel frame and timber frame construction.

Features & Benefits

Why specify Licata Fibre Cement Board?

01

A1 Non-Combustible

Classified A1 to EN 13501-1, compliant with Building Safety Act requirements for buildings over 11 metres. Makes no contribution to fire and produces no toxic gas.

02

Weather & Moisture Resistant

Resistant to water, frost, hot water, and soaking and drying cycles to TS EN 12467. Suitable for exterior and wet area applications. Moisture movement of only 0.05%.

03

High Mechanical Strength

Bending strength ≥7 N/mm² wet and ≥12 N/mm² dry, with compressive strength over 35 MPa. High impact resistance compared to gypsum-based boards.

04

Termite & Rot Resistant

Water resistant yet breathable, so the board resists rotting over time and is unappealing to termites and other pests.

05

Easy to Cut & Install

Light in weight and easy to carry. Cut on site with fibre cement knives, reciprocating or circular saws. Straight-cut edges can be used directly, saving labour time.

06

No Hazardous Materials

Asbestos free to Type NT, no formaldehyde adhesive, no toxic gas in fire and no environmentally hazardous materials. Odourless in use. Compliant with CPR 305/2011/EU.

07

Sound Insulation

8mm boards achieve 30.2 dB Rw and 12mm boards 32.1 dB Rw to TS EN ISO 717-1. Suitable for sound insulated surfaces and fire-resistant partitions.

08

Long Service Life

Properly installed and maintained, fibre cement board can last 50 years or more with very little maintenance. Durable, UV resistant and dimensionally stable.

Common Questions

Fibre cement board FAQs

What kind of saw is needed to cut fibre cement board?
Fibre cement board can be cut on site using fibre cement knives, fibre cement reciprocating saws or fibre cement circular saws. For high volumes, a blade with polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tips lasts longest. Avoid wood blades, whose finer teeth create more silica dust.
Should I wear a mask when cutting fibre cement board?
A dust mask is always a good idea when cutting fibre cement board, whether working indoors or outdoors, to limit exposure to silica dust.
Does fibre cement board contain asbestos?
No. The Licata Fibre Cement Board is asbestos free (Type NT to EN 12467), contains no formaldehyde adhesive and releases no toxic gas in fire.
Is fibre cement board heavy?
The board has a minimum dry weight of approximately 9.2 kg/m² at 8mm and 13.8 kg/m² at 12mm, so it is best to have help when handling and installing larger boards.
How long will fibre cement board last?
Properly installed and maintained, Licata fibre cement board can last 50 years or more. Actual service life depends on the installation, the structure and site conditions.
Will fibre cement board attract termites or need much maintenance?
No. The board is unappealing to termites and other pests and requires very little maintenance over its service life.
