Thoresby Vale Primary Academy
Natural slate rainscreen cladding for a new primary school
Thoresby Vale Primary Academy is a new primary school at the Thoresby Vale development in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, on the edge of Sherwood Forest. Licata Building Systems supplied the CUPACLAD 101 LOGIC natural slate rainscreen cladding system for the building’s facade.
Schools demand a lot from their external materials: decades of service with minimal maintenance, robustness at ground level, and a building the community is proud of. Natural slate answers all three: a material formed over hundreds of millions of years, with a design life beyond most man-made cladding, no coatings or sealants to renew, and a depth of character that elevates the architecture.
CUPACLAD 101 LOGIC arranges the slate in a clean horizontal format with concealed fixings, so the facade reads as uninterrupted natural slate, over a ventilated rainscreen build-up that keeps the structure behind it dry.

Licata is a UK distributor of CUPACLAD, the natural slate rainscreen cladding range from CUPA PIZARRAS. The 101 LOGIC system fixes 40x20cm tectonic slates in a horizontal pattern with fixings concealed by the overlapping courses, combining the permanence of natural slate with the performance of a ventilated rainscreen facade.
