Cambridge Net Zero Retrofit
Taking occupied council homes towards net zero in Cambridge
This whole-house retrofit programme on Ross Street, Cambridge, is upgrading 29 occupied council homes towards net zero, improving the thermal performance, energy efficiency and appearance of residents’ homes while they remain in place throughout the works.
External wall insulation sits at the heart of the retrofit. Each property receives the Licata 190mm Mineral Wool EWI System finished in silicone render, dramatically reducing heat loss through the external walls, cutting energy bills and giving the street a clean, consistent, refreshed facade.
Working on occupied homes places real demands on logistics and workmanship: works are sequenced property by property, with residents kept in their homes and disruption kept to a minimum from start to finish.

190mm mineral wool EWI with a silicone render finish
Licata Building Systems supplied the 190mm Mineral Wool EWI System, finished in silicone render, for the programme. At 190mm, the non-combustible mineral wool insulation delivers the step change in thermal performance a net zero retrofit demands, while the silicone render finish provides a highly water-repellent, breathable and low-maintenance external envelope suited to the long-term performance requirements of social housing.
