Layer-by-layer system specification

The Water-Repellent Lime System builds on the basic lime render stack with the addition of a potassium silicate primer and Licata Sil silicate topcoat, delivering superior water repellency and weather resistance whilst preserving full vapour permeability. The silicate chemistry bonds chemically with the mineral lime substrate through silicatisation, creating a durable decorative finish that will not peel or delaminate over time.

Raso Top Bio replaces Colorado Spugnato as the skim coat in this system. Its bio-lime formulation is specifically designed as a bonding surface for subsequent silicate coatings, providing the ideal mineral substrate for Primer Ocram and Licata Sil.

Layer 1
Substrate
Masonry, stone or block substrate, clean, sound and free from loose material. Dampen thoroughly before applying base plaster to prevent rapid suction and ensure good adhesion.

Layer 2: Base Plaster
Romana Intonaco
NHL5 natural hydraulic lime base plaster, the structural render coat. Apply in one or more coats as required. Allow to cure fully before applying the skim coat, with minimum cure time dependent on temperature and conditions.

Layer 3: Skim Plaster
Raso Top Bio
Bio-lime skim coat, providing the fine, smooth mineral surface for subsequent silicate coatings. Specifically formulated to act as a bonding substrate for potassium silicate primers and topcoats. Allow to cure before priming.

Layer 4: Primer
Primer Ocram
Pigmentable potassium silicate primer, bonding chemically with the mineral Raso Top Bio surface through silicatisation. Evens out absorption and prepares the surface for uniform application of Licata Sil. Can be tinted to match the topcoat colour.

Layer 5: Silicate Topcoat
Licata Sil
Decorative potassium silicate coating: highly transpiring, water-repellent and anti-mould. UNI EN 15824 compliant. Bonds chemically with the primed mineral surface. Applied in two or more cross-over coats. Available across the full licatacolore 2.0 colour range.
