Features & Benefits

Why specify Storica Deumidificante dehumidifying plaster?

💧

Rising Damp Dehumidifying Plaster

Storica Deumidificante is specifically engineered as a dehumidifying plaster for walls affected by capillary rising damp — the macroporous structure allows moisture to escape without damaging the plaster surface.

🧂

No Reaction to Salts

Salt crystal formation within the wall does not alter the characteristics of this dehumidifying plaster — it maintains excellent adhesion without swelling, detachment or erosion even in high-salt environments.

🌬️

High Vapour Permeability

The macroporous, ventilated formulation of this dehumidifying plaster is highly permeable to water vapour — guaranteeing correct breathability of internal and external walls and improving internal comfort.

🏛️

Historically Compatible

Formulated with NHL 5 natural hydraulic lime and traditional raw materials that respect those used in historical structures — making it the correct dehumidifying plaster for heritage, listed and conservation area buildings.

💪

Fibre-Reinforced for Crack Resistance

The fibre-reinforced formulation of this dehumidifying plaster minimises shrinkage cracking — providing a more durable, stable plaster base even on difficult renovation substrates.

⚡

Excellent Workability

Latest-generation additives give this dehumidifying plaster outstanding smoothness and ease of application — suitable for both manual and machine application on all covered substrate types.

Product Description

Storica Deumidificante — Dehumidifying Plaster for Renovation

Storica Deumidificante is Licata's macroporous dehumidifying plaster for renovation — a fibre-reinforced plaster based on completely natural products including pure natural hydraulic lime (NHL 5 certified to UNI EN 459-1:2010), selected sands and earthenware. This dehumidifying plaster is specifically designed for the conservative restoration of walls, including those of historical interest.

The excellent water vapour permeability combined with high resistance to salts makes this dehumidifying plaster a versatile solution to any capillary rising damp problem. It guarantees correct breathability of both internal and external walls, improving internal comfort while protecting the fabric of the building from ongoing moisture damage.

Before applying this dehumidifying plaster in rising damp treatments, the existing plaster must be completely removed to at least one metre above the visible damp line. Treat the substrate with NeutralAntisale impregnating agent before application to maximise effectiveness.

Preparation

Preparing for dehumidifying plaster application

1
Remove existing plaster: For rising damp treatment, completely remove all existing plaster to at least one metre above the area where humidity is visible. Remove any crumbling or uneven parts caused by salt concentrations by hydro-blasting and washing, including any bedding mortars.
2
Treat with NeutralAntisale: Before applying the dehumidifying plaster, treat the prepared substrate with NeutralAntisale — an impregnating agent with filter action for masonry subject to rising damp. Apply the dehumidifying plaster immediately after treatment.
3
Mixing: Use 4.75–5.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag. Pour the dehumidifying plaster into a container with three quarters of the water and mix for 3 minutes at low speed. Leave to rest for a few minutes before use.
Application

Applying the dehumidifying plaster

1
Wet the substrate: Wet the prepared substrate to SSD conditions (saturated surface dry) before applying the dehumidifying plaster.
2
Apply by machine or hand: Apply by spray from bottom to top, or by trowel. Apply in thicknesses of 6–20mm per coat. Straighten with a straight edge or knife using horizontal and vertical passes.
3
Roughen between coats: For thicknesses above 20mm, apply additional coats with at least one day between each. Roughen the previous coat with a hard grout trowel 1.5–4 hours after application before applying the next coat.
4
Minimum thickness: To maximise the effectiveness of this dehumidifying plaster, application thickness should never be less than 20mm in dehumidifying cycles.
Important: Do not add any other products or binders — mix with clean water only. Protect eyes and skin during application. Do not use open or partially used bags. Temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C throughout application and drying.
FAQs

Dehumidifying plaster — frequently asked questions

A dehumidifying plaster is a macroporous, highly breathable plaster specifically formulated to manage moisture in walls affected by rising damp. Unlike conventional plasters, a dehumidifying plaster allows water vapour to escape freely through its open pore structure whilst resisting salt attack — the main cause of failure in standard plasters on damp walls. Storica Deumidificante dehumidifying plaster also uses natural hydraulic lime which is historically compatible with older building fabric.
To maximise the effectiveness of this dehumidifying plaster in rising damp treatments, the application thickness should never be less than 20mm total. This can be achieved in a single coat of 6–20mm, or in multiple coats for greater thicknesses — allowing at least one day between each coat.
When using Storica Deumidificante as a dehumidifying plaster for rising damp, all existing plaster must be removed and the dehumidifying plaster applied to at least one metre above the highest visible point of dampness. This ensures the full moisture zone is treated and the plaster system can function correctly.
Yes. Storica Deumidificante dehumidifying plaster is based on NHL 5 natural hydraulic lime and traditional raw materials that are historically compatible with those used in historical structures. It is specifically designed for the conservative restoration of walls of historical interest, making it the appropriate choice for listed buildings and buildings in conservation areas.
