Sana Beton Anti-Carbonation Paint by Licata

Sana Beton is Licata's anti-carbonation quartz wall paint — certified to EN 1504-2 as a concrete protector (CI-PI-MC-IR). Impermeable to CO₂ and atmospheric agents, it protects concrete and cement surfaces from carbonation whilst remaining highly water-repellent. High covering power delivers a quality finish in just two coats. Available in 4L and 14L buckets.

EN 1504-2 Certified — Concrete Protection

Sana Beton is certified to EN 1504-2 as a concrete protector meeting all four principles: CI (CO₂ impermeability), PI (penetration resistance), MC (humidity control) and IR (increased resistivity). Alongside Elasto Paint, it is one of only two Licata paints to carry this certification.

CO₂ Impermeable — Prevents Carbonation

The CO₂ impermeability of Sana Beton is its defining property — it prevents carbon dioxide from penetrating the concrete, stopping the carbonation process that destroys the alkaline protection of reinforcement bars and leads to corrosion and structural deterioration.

Highly Water-Repellent

High water repellency keeps treated surfaces dry and protected from rain and atmospheric agents — preventing the ingress of moisture that accelerates corrosion of reinforcement in carbonated concrete.

Resistant to Pollutants

Resistance to pollutants extends the life and aesthetics of the treated surface — particularly valuable on urban structures, bridges and car parks exposed to high concentrations of exhaust gases, SO₂ and other aggressive atmospheric agents.

High Covering Power

High covering power — 4 to 4.5 m²/L in two coats — delivers a quality decorative finish efficiently, shortening application times. Supplied in white and tintable to a wide colour range.

Sana Beton — Anti-Carbonation Quartz Wall Paint

Sana Beton is Licata's anti-carbonation quartz wall paint — a waterproofing and protective decorative paint specifically formulated for concrete and cement materials. Certified to EN 1504-2 as a concrete protector (CI-PI-MC-IR), it combines CO₂ impermeability with high water repellency to provide complete protection against the main causes of reinforced concrete deterioration.

The CO₂ impermeability is the product's key characteristic — it prevents carbonation of the concrete cover, maintaining the alkaline environment that protects reinforcement from corrosion. Combined with resistance to atmospheric pollutants and high covering power, Sana Beton is specified for balconies, columns, beams, retaining walls, bridge soffits and any concrete or cementitious surface requiring long-term decorative protection.

Always apply a primer before Sana Beton to even out absorption. For substrates with poor flatness, apply Uniformante LG filler first. Pre-treat mould or algae with Sanus biocide before priming.

Preparation

Preparing for application

Substrate condition: The substrate must be clean, flat, cohesive and free of any release agent. Remove all friable or poorly cohesive parts. Repair defects with the Licatarepair or Licatacem range before applying this anti-carbonation paint.

Treat mould or algae: Pre-treat any affected areas with Sanus biocide before priming. For substrates with poor flatness, apply Uniformante LG filler first and allow to cure.

Prime — always required: Always apply a suitable primer before Sana Beton to even out absorption. This ensures uniform appearance and maximum adhesion of the anti-carbonation paint.

Mix and dilute: Dilute with clean water — 20% for the first coat, 15% for the second coat (brush/roller), or 20% for airless. Mix at low speed after dilution.
Application

Applying Sana Beton

100% coverage: Apply the first coat by brush, roller or airless spray, ensuring complete 100% coverage of all surfaces. Do not leave bare patches — full coverage is essential for the CO₂ barrier to function.

Second coat perpendicular: Apply the second coat after 3–4 hours at 20°C, spreading it perpendicular to the first. Cross-coat application ensures complete coverage and maximises the waterproofing and anti-carbonation performance.

Protect from sun and rain: Provide adequate shielding on sun-exposed surfaces during application. Protect the fresh anti-carbonation paint from rain, wind and direct sunlight for the first 48–72 hours.

Check colour before starting: Always verify the colour matches the specification before application. No claims regarding colour shade will be accepted once the paint has been applied.
Primer is always required before Sana Beton. Do not apply on icy surfaces or in fog/excessive humidity. Temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C. Clean tools with water immediately after use.
