Repair 250 R — Quick-Setting Structural Concrete Repair Mortar

Thixotropic, structural, fibre-reinforced polymer-modified quick-setting cement mortar — classified R3 to UNI EN 1504-3, levellable in 20–30 minutes, paintable in 4–6 hours

Repair 250 R quick-setting structural concrete repair mortar by Licata

Repair 250 R is Licata's quick-setting, polymer-modified structural repair mortar — the fast-turnaround version of Repair 250 N. Special accelerating additives drastically reduce completion times: it can be levelled with a trowel after just 20–30 minutes and painted within 4–6 hours, making it the right choice wherever programme pressure demands rapid return to service. It carries the same R3 classification and full structural performance as its standard-setting counterpart.

Features & Benefits

Why specify Repair 250 R quick-setting structural concrete repair mortar?

Quick Setting — Back in Service Fast

Special accelerating additives drastically reduce completion times. Repair 250 R can be levelled with a trowel after just 20–30 minutes and painted or overcoated within 4–6 hours — delivering the same R3 structural performance as Repair 250 N but at a fraction of the turnaround time.

Suitable at Low Temperatures

The shorter setting times make Repair 250 R suitable for use in cold conditions where standard-setting mortars would be impractical. The rapid strength gain reduces the window of vulnerability to frost damage on fresh repairs.

Classified R3 — UNI EN 1504-3

Despite its rapid setting profile, Repair 250 R fully meets the bending strength and compressive resistance requirements for Class R3 under UNI EN 1504-3 — achieving compressive strength exceeding 25 MPa and an elastic modulus above 15 GPa.

Carbonation Protection — UNI EN 1504-2

Repair 250 R prevents atmospheric CO₂ from penetrating into the substrate, protecting the underlying concrete against carbonation in compliance with UNI EN 1504-2 Principle 1.3 (C). Capillary absorption is confirmed at ≤0.01 kg/m²h½.

HT Fibre Reinforced

High-tenacity fibres and the controlled-shrinkage formula work together to minimise cracking, fissures and peeling. The shorter setting times compound this advantage — less time in the fresh state means less opportunity for shrinkage-induced cracking to develop.

Thixotropic — Vertical & Overhead

Special additives deliver excellent thixotropy and wetting capacity, making Repair 250 R suitable for vertical and overhead applications. It holds position on application without slumping — even with the accelerated setting profile.

Product Description

Repair 250 R — Quick-Setting Polymer-Modified Structural Mortar

Repair 250 R is Licata's thixotropic, quick-setting, structural, fibre-reinforced polymer-modified cement mortar — the rapid-return-to-service variant in the BetonFIP repair range. Manufactured with high-resistance hydraulic binders, selected aggregates, pozzolanic additives, HT fibres and special accelerating additives, it delivers full R3 structural performance with dramatically shorter completion times.

Where Repair 250 N requires 80–120 minutes before levelling and 24 hours before painting, Repair 250 R is levellable in 20–30 minutes and paintable within 4–6 hours — without any compromise to the structural or durability performance of the completed repair. With a maximum particle size of under 1.5mm, surfaces are ready for paint or decorative treatment without further working.

The product is equally suited to repairs carried out in cold conditions, where its rapid strength development reduces exposure to frost during the critical early curing period. It is compatible with BetonFIP Passivante on exposed reinforcement and with FinishPro 280 as a final skim coat.

Preparation & Mixing

Preparing Repair 250 R

1
Substrate preparation: Mechanically remove all flaking or easily detachable material. Clean the area thoroughly — free from dust, detergents, oils, greases, waxes, gypsum and salts. For exposed reinforcement, apply BetonFIP Passivante before proceeding.
2
Mixing: Add 4.0–4.5 litres of clean water per 25kg bag (16–18% by mass). Pour the product into a container with ¾ of the water and mix for 3 minutes at low speed, gradually adding the remaining water until a homogeneous, lump-free thixotropic mixture is achieved. Do not split bags for partial mixes.
3
Substrate condition: Prior to application, wet the substrate until saturated — Saturated Surface Dry (SSD) condition. This is essential to prevent premature moisture loss from the fresh mortar, which would be particularly detrimental given the accelerated setting profile.
Application

Applying Repair 250 R

1
Bonding layer: Apply a thinner, well-pressed bonding coat first before building to the required thickness. Even out with a trowel, compacting as necessary. Work efficiently — working time is approximately 20 minutes at 20°C.
2
Single coat depth: Apply in a single coat from 3 to 30mm by hand or machine. For repairs exceeding 30mm, apply a second coat onto the fully hardened first coat.
3
Levelling and finishing: Repair 250 R can be levelled with a trowel at 20–30 minutes after application. Paint or decorative treatments can be applied from 4–6 hours. Full structural resistance is achieved after 28 days of curing.
4
Curing: Protect fresh mortar for at least 24 hours from rapid drying, direct sunlight, strong wind and heavy rain.
Critical — quick-setting product: Do not add water or additional powder once the mix has been prepared. With Repair 250 R, doing so will seriously jeopardise final performance. Mix only what can be placed within the 20-minute working window. Ambient, substrate and product temperatures must be between +5°C and +35°C.
