Features & Benefits

Why specify FinishPro 280 concrete smoothing and protection mortar?

Certified to UNI EN 1504-2

FinishPro 280 is certified to UNI EN 1504-2 under Principle 1.3 (C) — preventing the penetration of atmospheric CO₂ and protecting the underlying concrete from the damaging effects of carbonation. CO₂ permeability is classified Class 0.

Excellent Aesthetic Finish

With a maximum aggregate size of under 0.5mm, FinishPro 280 delivers a fine civil-texture surface that is ready for painting or decorative treatment without any further finishing operations — saving time and cost on site.

Thixotropic — Ideal for Vertical & Overhead

Excellent thixotropic properties and wetting capacity make FinishPro 280 suitable for both vertical and overhead applications. It holds position on application and will not slump or sag, even on difficult surfaces.

Fibre Reinforced

Special HT fibres are incorporated into the formulation, providing continuous reinforcement and significantly increasing flexural strength — reducing the risk of cracking and improving durability in demanding conditions.

High Adhesion — Maintained Under Extremes

FinishPro 280 adheres to most construction substrates. Adhesion values are maintained after exposure to frost, heat, and chemical attack — demonstrating long-term reliability in exposed and aggressive environments.

Near-Zero Hygrometric Shrinkage

Dimensional stability achieved through near-zero hygrometric shrinkage allows application in thicknesses from 1 to 10mm while minimising the risk of cracking — even on uneven or challenging substrates.

Product Description

FinishPro 280 — Polymer-Modified Skim Coat Mortar

FinishPro 280 is Licata's polymer-modified, thixotropic, fibre-reinforced cementitious skim coat mortar — developed in the Licata R&D laboratories and based on hydraulic binders, selected pure aggregates, and specific additives. The inclusion of redispersible resins enhances adhesion and increases resistance to aggressive atmospheric agents.

Characterised by easy workability, excellent thixotropy, and outstanding wetting capacity, FinishPro 280 is ideal for skim coating internally and externally on reinforced concrete structures. It is equally suited to levelling and protecting concrete elements previously repaired with mortars from the licata.repair range — including Repair 250, Repair 450, and Repair 400C.

The fine aggregate size of under 0.5mm ensures a consistently high aesthetic standard — surfaces are ready for direct painting or decorative treatment once cured, without the need for further finishing. For demanding substrates, LicataTherm 160 mesh can be embedded before the final coat to provide additional anti-cracking performance.

Preparation & Mixing

Preparing FinishPro 280

1
Substrate preparation: Remove all loose or easily detachable material mechanically. The surface must be free from dust, detergents, oils, release agents, greases, waxes, gypsum and salts. Treat heavily dusty or powdery surfaces with Nano Primer consolidating primer first. Fill any holes or major defects with a mortar from the licata.repair range.
2
Mixing: Add 4.25–4.75 litres of clean water per 25kg bag (17–19% by mass). Pour the product into a container with approximately ¾ of the water and mix for 3 minutes at low speed, gradually adding the remaining water until a homogeneous, lump-free, thixotropic mixture is achieved. Allow the mix to rest for a few minutes before use. Do not split bags for partial mixes.
3
Temperature check: Confirm that ambient, substrate and product temperatures are all between +5°C and +35°C before proceeding. Do not apply to frozen surfaces or under direct midday sun without precautions.
Application

Applying FinishPro 280

1
Apply by trowel in at least two coats, each not exceeding 2–3mm thickness. Allow 2–24 hours between coats depending on climatic conditions. Finish with a sponge float, lightly moistening with sprayed water.
2
Reinforcement mesh (where required): For demanding applications — highly uneven surfaces, micro-cracked areas, wear-prone zones or substrates subject to movement — embed LicataTherm 160 mesh before the final coat. Install in vertical strips with a minimum 10cm overlap on adjoining edges.
3
Curing: Protect fresh mortar for at least 24 hours from rapid drying, direct sunlight, strong wind, and heavy rain. FinishPro 280 reaches a suitable stage for decorative finishes after at least one week at 20°C ±1 / 70% RH ±5.
Note: Do not apply to substrates with surface water present, completely dry substrates, or in extreme conditions. Dry wind, high temperatures or highly absorbent substrates reduce open time — check regularly that no surface film has formed and remix if required. A slightly damp substrate helps prolong open time; do not add extra water to already-mixed mortar.
