Features & Benefits

Why specify Licalastic 150 PU polyurethane waterproofing membrane?

🌡️

Elastic from -30°C to +80°C

This polyurethane waterproofing membrane retains its full elastic properties across a temperature range of -30°C to +80°C — maintaining waterproof integrity through all UK climate conditions and extreme thermal cycling.

🔗

Continuous Joint-Free Membrane

Once cured, Licalastic 150 PU forms a seamless, continuous polyurethane waterproofing membrane with no joints — allowing large surfaces to be waterproofed without the vulnerability points that seams and laps create.

🏅

Suitable Under Tiles

This polyurethane waterproofing membrane passes UNI EN 14891 testing for under-tile waterproofing — compatible with Licata Super S1 and C2 class adhesives for ceramic tile installation directly over the cured membrane.

☀️

UV Resistant

Licalastic 150 PU polyurethane waterproofing membrane is UV resistant — maintaining structural performance even when left exposed. Minor colour fading may occur over time but mechanical properties are retained.

↔️

>450% Stretching Resistance

The completely elastomeric polyurethane resin formula delivers stretching resistance in excess of 450% — accommodating significant substrate movement, cracking and structural settlement without membrane failure.

🔧

Easy to Repair

Should the polyurethane waterproofing membrane sustain mechanical damage, it can be repaired in minutes by applying a fresh patch — a significant practical advantage over sheet membrane systems.

Product Description

Licalastic 150 PU — Solvent-Based Polyurethane Waterproofing Membrane

Licalastic 150 PU is Licata's single-component solvent-based polyurethane waterproofing membrane — water-hardening, with high adhesion strength and outstanding mechanical and chemical resistance. Its special formula, based on completely elastomeric and water-repellent polyurethane resins, creates a continuous, joint-free waterproof system once cured — suitable for both exposed applications and under ceramic tiles.

This polyurethane waterproofing membrane is certified to UNI EN 1504-2 for coating (C) in accordance with PI (protection against ingress), MC (moisture control) and IR (increasing resistivity) principles — and also passes UNI EN 14891 for use as a waterproof layer beneath tiles. The combination of UV resistance, foot traffic resistance and a service temperature range of -30°C to +80°C makes it one of the most versatile polyurethane waterproofing membranes in the Licata range.

For the ultimate finished appearance on exposed applications, overcoat this polyurethane waterproofing membrane with Top Layer 100 — a polyurethane topcoat with high wear resistance, non-yellowing properties and high elasticity.

Applications

Where to use this polyurethane waterproofing membrane

Roofs (exposed or under protection)
Balconies and terraces
Cement screeds (new and existing)
Under ceramic tiles (with Licata Super S1)
Precast and cast-in-place concrete
Restoration of deteriorated waterproofing systems
Over existing bituminous membranes
Important — Solvent-Based Product
Licalastic 150 PU is a solvent-based polyurethane waterproofing membrane. Use personal protection equipment throughout application. Only dilute with Licasol 150 if required — do not use other thinners as they will prevent hardening.

Preparation

Preparing for polyurethane waterproofing membrane application

1
Clean the substrate: Remove all flaking parts, dust, oils, greases, waxes, gypsum and salt. The substrate must be dry with maximum residual moisture of 5%.
2
Substrate strength: Compression resistance must be at least 25 MPa and tensile strength at least 1.5 MPa. Prepare the surface by sandblasting, milling, shot-peening or sanding as required.
3
Control joints: All cementitious screeds must have control joints roughly every 9m² as required by current regulations before this polyurethane waterproofing membrane is applied.
4
Damp substrates: On surfaces with residual moisture, treat with EpoxyCem TX three-component epoxy-cement primer. On bituminous substrates, treat with Licaprimer 600 to neutralise plasticiser migration.
Application

Applying the polyurethane waterproofing membrane

1
Ready to use: Mix this polyurethane waterproofing membrane at low speed before application. Apply by brush, roller or airless spray. If using airless, dilute up to 5% with Licasol 150 only — no other thinners.
2
First coat: Apply the first coat evenly. Allow to cure for approximately 24 hours before applying the second coat.
3
Reinforcement fabric (if required): On bituminous substrates or movement-prone areas, embed Texture 2000 reinforcement fabric into the fresh first coat, then apply a third coat over the cured reinforced layer.
4
Joints and connections: Reinforce structural and control joints with Texture 2000 or LicaBand RL12 (formed as an Omega). At corners and floor-wall junctions use LicaBand BTS 100 self-adhesive waterproofing tape.
5
Topcoat (optional): For maximum durability and a non-yellowing exposed finish, apply Top Layer 100 polyurethane topcoat as the final layer over this polyurethane waterproofing membrane.
Solvent-based product: Use appropriate PPE throughout — protect eyes and skin. Humidity in the space affects hardening speed. Fully dry time is 10 days — do not lay tiles before this period has elapsed.
