Features & Benefits

Why specify Flex HM tile adhesive?

🏅

C2TE — Highest Standard Tile Adhesive Classification

Certified to UNI EN 12004 C2TE — improved adhesion (C2), no vertical slip (T) and extended open time (E). This tile adhesive classification covers the most demanding wall and floor tiling applications including large formats, wet areas and external use.

⏱️

>30 Minute Extended Open Time

The extended open time of over 30 minutes gives tilers more working time to position and adjust tiles — particularly important for large format tile installation where precise alignment takes time and rushing causes costly mistakes.

🧱

No Vertical Slip — Walls & Large Formats

High thixotropy prevents tiles from sliding on vertical surfaces after placement — this tile adhesive holds tiles firmly in position on walls without movement, making it suitable for large format wall tiles and heavy stone cladding.

🔄

Tiles Over Tiles

Flex HM tile adhesive is specifically suitable for laying new tiles directly over existing ceramic, porcelain or marble floors — eliminating demolition time and cost when renovating. Prime with Aggrappante LG or abrade mechanically first.

💧

Enhanced with LicaLatex for Wet Areas

Mixing with LicaLatex in a 1:1 ratio with the mixing water significantly increases watertightness and resistance to corrosive agents — making this tile adhesive suitable for swimming pools, cold storage rooms and aggressive chemical environments.

❄️

Freeze-Thaw Resistant

Maintains adhesion values after freeze-thaw cycle testing — this tile adhesive retains ≥1 N/mm² after exposure to freeze-thaw conditions, making it suitable for external applications in UK climatic conditions.

Product Description

Flex HM — C2TE High-Performance Tile Adhesive

Flex HM is Licata's high-performance C2TE tile adhesive — a polymer-modified cementitious adhesive based on high-strength hydraulic binders, selected aggregates and latest-generation additives for interior and exterior use. Certified to UNI EN 12004 as a cementitious adhesive (C) with improved characteristics (2), no vertical slip (T) and extended open time (E).

This tile adhesive is specifically formulated for thin layer bonding (2–5mm) of all ceramic types, natural stone, mosaics and large format tiles on walls and floors. Good wettability ensures excellent contact with low-absorption porcelain stoneware — one of the most demanding tiling scenarios. It can be enhanced with LicaLatex for swimming pools and wet industrial environments.

For challenging applications — tiles over 900cm² (30×30cm), external frost-exposed floors, tanks, heavy-load floors or honed finishes — always use the back-buttering method, applying this tile adhesive to both the substrate and the back of the tile to guarantee 100% coverage.

Preparation & Mixing

Preparing Flex HM tile adhesive

1
Substrate preparation: Remove all flaking parts, dust, oils, greases, waxes, chalk and salt. Gypsum plaster, anhydrite screeds and plasterboard must be primed with Aggrappante LG before applying this tile adhesive.
2
Existing floors: Prime with Aggrappante LG (or mechanically abrade/wash with caustic soda). Ensure the existing floor is solid, flat, clean and fully anchored — apply back-buttering on the tile as well as the substrate.
3
Mixing: Add 6.75–7.5 litres of clean water per 25kg bag to ¾ of the water. Mix for 3 minutes at low speed until a thixotropic, uniform, lump-free mixture is achieved. Wait 10 minutes, then remix before applying.
4
LicaLatex upgrade (wet areas): Replace mixing water with LicaLatex diluted 1:1 with water to enhance watertightness — suitable for swimming pools and aggressive environments.
Application

Applying the tile adhesive

1
Spread with notched trowel: After 10 minutes rest time, remix and spread with a 6–10mm notched trowel. Target at least 65% coverage for indoor walls and 100% for outdoor floors.
2
Do not exceed 5mm thickness: Maximum application thickness is 5mm. Do not build up this tile adhesive to compensate for an uneven substrate — level the floor first with Floor K300 or LicaPlan.
3
Check for skinning: Constantly check that the adhesive has not skinned over before placing tiles. If skinned, freshen by re-spreading. Never re-mix with water — water added to skinned adhesive forms an anti-adhesive film.
4
Tile placement: Press tiles firmly into the adhesive — no need to wet tiles beforehand. If dusty tile backs are present, wash by immersing in clean water and allow to dry before laying.
Never add water to skinned adhesive — it forms an anti-adhesive film. Do not apply on wet, completely dry or extreme condition substrates (direct sun, frost, dry wind). Do not split bags for partial mixes.
