Elasto Paint Elastomeric Paint by Licata

Elasto Paint is Licata's elastomeric waterproof coating — certified to UNI EN 1504-2 for concrete protection, making it the only paint in the Licata range with this classification. Based on self-crosslinking elastomeric acrylic copolymers, it forms a waterproof, crack-bridging, vapour-permeable film that protects reinforced concrete structures from carbonation, chlorides and moisture penetration. Ideal for façade restoration, balconies, columns, beams and EWI systems — in over 600 colours.

Why specify Elasto Paint elastomeric paint?

UNI EN 1504-2 Certified — Concrete Protection

Elasto Paint is the only Licata paint certified to UNI EN 1504-2 — the European standard for the protection and repair of concrete structures. It meets the requirements for protection against penetration (PI 1.3), humidity control (MC 2.2) and increased resistivity (IR 8.2).

Elasticity — Bridges Microcracks

The self-crosslinking elastomeric acrylic binder gives Elasto Paint its defining property — the ability to bridge microcracks and microcavillations in the substrate. Essential for restoring façades where hairline cracking is present and further movement is anticipated.

CO₂ and SO₂ Resistant — Prevents Carbonation

Once fully cured, Elasto Paint forms a coating resistant to CO₂ and SO₂ — the atmospheric agents responsible for carbonation of reinforced concrete. Carbonation destroys the alkaline protection of reinforcement, leading to corrosion and structural failure over time.

Waterproof — Impermeable Film

Elasto Paint creates a continuous, unbroken waterproof film that prevents rainwater penetration, keeping treated surfaces completely dry. Classified W3 for capillary water absorption and liquid water permeability under EN 1062-3.

Vapour Permeable

Despite forming a waterproof film, Elasto Paint remains permeable to water vapour — classified V2 under EN ISO 7783-2012. Moisture from within the structure can escape whilst liquid water is completely excluded.

600+ Colours

Elasto Paint can be pigmented to over 600 different colour shades — from pastel tones through to ultra-bright colours. Anti-mould additives in the formula provide protection against mould and algae formation across the full colour range.

Apply to cured substrates — minimum 4 weeks. Pre-treat mould or algae with Sanus biocide before priming. Elasto Primer must always be applied before Elasto Paint.

Preparation

Preparing for application

Substrate preparation: Remove all flaking or detaching material mechanically. Repair small areas with suitable products and restore flatness. Clean all surfaces of dust, detergents, oils and mineral greases.

Treat mould or algae: Pre-treat any areas showing mould or algae with Sanus biocide before priming. Do not prime or paint over active biological growth.

Apply Elasto Primer — always required: Elasto Primer (elastomeric resin base fixative in aqueous solution) must be applied to all surfaces before Elasto Paint. There are no exceptions to this — it is required for adhesion and system compatibility.

Mix and dilute: Dilute with clean water — 25% for the first coat, 20% for the second coat. Mix with a whisk for a few minutes until smooth and homogeneous before applying.
Application

Applying Elasto Paint

Brush or roller only — two or more coats: Apply by brush or roller in cross-over layers. Airless spray is not recommended for this elastomeric paint. Allow at least 3 hours between coats at 20°C.

Note the longer dry time: Elasto Paint takes 5–6 hours to touch-dry at 20°C — longer than standard silicate or silicone paints. Plan accordingly. Full cure is 24 hours after the final coat.

Monitor open time: Highly absorbent substrates, strong draughts or high temperatures can reduce open time. Constantly check that a surface film does not form prematurely during application.

Protect from sun and rain: Protect the fresh elastomeric paint from direct sunlight and heavy rain for the first 48–72 hours. Temperature must be maintained between +5°C and +35°C throughout.
Elasto Primer is always required before this elastomeric paint — no exceptions. Do not apply on frozen, thawing or wet substrates. Dry time is 5–6 hours — significantly longer than other Licata paints. Clean tools with water immediately after use.
