Hampton by Hilton, London Park Royal

A heritage-sensitive refurbishment of a listed 1930s Art Deco building
Located on one of London’s busiest commuter routes (the A406) and adjacent to a major underground station, the Hampton by Hilton, London Park Royal project involved the sensitive refurbishment of a derelict 1930s building into a modern 162-bedroom hotel. As a listed property, the scheme demanded a façade solution that respected and reinstated the original Art Deco character while delivering modern standards of thermal performance.
Licata Systems worked closely with Build-Therm Services, a long-standing approved applicator, and the wider design team led by Maith Design Ltd, to develop an external wall insulation solution that met both conservation and performance requirements, involved from the early design stage to assess the existing façade and develop a suitable system.
The brief
The retained structure featured significantly aged and weathered brickwork, creating a key challenge in achieving visual continuity across the refurbished elevations. As a listed building in a prominent location, the façade had to reinstate the original Art Deco character, including complex curved elevations, while meeting modern thermal performance standards.
The works also had to be carefully planned and sequenced around the retained structure, and were delivered through a challenging construction period that included the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Licata system
Licata supplied the Licatatherm External Wall Insulation system incorporating 160mm mineral wool insulation, finished with bespoke 20mm handmade brick slips. The system achieved a U-value of 0.21 W/(m²K) and provided a robust, breathable insulation layer suited to a hotel refurbishment in a high-traffic urban environment. The Licatatherm system proved ideally suited to the building’s complex geometry, allowing the insulation and brick slip finish to follow the original curved Art Deco elevations without compromising performance or aesthetics.
A bespoke brick slip blend was developed to match the varied, weathered tones of the existing masonry, through an extended on-site sampling and mock-up process, ensuring the refurbished elevations blended naturally with the retained structure.
The outcome
The completed façade delivers a high-performance, compliant solution achieving a U-value of 0.21 W/(m²K), while seamlessly integrating bespoke handmade brick slips that honour the building’s original Art Deco character. An enhanced level of technical oversight, including regular site visits, quality inspections and direct engagement with the installer and design team, ensured the design intent was achieved and high workmanship standards upheld throughout. The result is a visually cohesive, thermally efficient refurbishment that transformed a derelict listed building into a contemporary Hampton by Hilton hotel.
