Exeter House, Ealing is a high-quality new build residential development comprising nine luxury apartments constructed above a retained garage structure in a well-connected West London location. Situated close to Ealing Broadway, the scheme forms part of the area’s ongoing urban regeneration while responding sensitively to its surrounding residential context.
The architectural design combines contemporary form with carefully considered detailing, incorporating balconies, herringbone brickwork and sculptural metal elements to enhance the local streetscape. Sustainability was a key driver from the outset, with the development designed to deliver strong environmental performance alongside a refined external appearance.
Licata Building Systems supplied the external wall insulation and brick slip façade solution for the project. The façade was formed using a lightweight SFS cladding structure incorporating insulated panels and a brick slip finish, delivering the visual quality of traditional masonry while supporting modern construction methods and performance requirements.
The brief
Building above a retained garage structure placed a clear constraint on the façade: the build-up had to remain lightweight while still delivering the thermal and acoustic performance expected of a residential scheme in a dense urban setting.
The architectural intent called for the appearance of traditional masonry, including herringbone brickwork, without the structural load associated with full brick construction. The system also had to integrate cleanly with the building’s lightweight SFS structure and coordinate around balconies, window openings and the sculptural metal elements that define the elevations.
The Licata system
Licata supplied a Licatatherm external wall insulation system incorporating mineral wool insulation, finished with 20mm brick slips, installed as part of the SFS façade build-up. Mineral wool was selected for its thermal efficiency and acoustic performance, contributing to a robust, breathable building envelope suited to a residential scheme in a dense urban environment.

The outcome
The completed façade delivers a durable, energy-efficient solution that enhances the visual quality of the development and contributes to the long-term performance of Exeter House. The brick slip finish provides the appearance of traditional masonry, including the herringbone detailing central to the architectural design, without the structural load of full brick construction.
Careful coordination of junctions around balconies and openings ensured the system complemented the architectural intent while maintaining consistent performance across the elevations. The lightweight insulated build-up enabled efficient construction and seamless integration with the SFS structure, supporting both programme and design requirements — and producing a façade that sits comfortably within the character of Ealing.
