Rendering in Enfield

World-class Rendering Products and Systems in Dartford

Do You Need a Rendering Supplier in Enfield?

The historic market town of Enfield is one of the 35 major economic centres of Greater London and home to more than 150,000 people. Weather during the summer months is generally pleasant but for a full 6 months every year it’s quite cold and snow is not unheard of in December, January and February. Keeping expensive heated air inside where it belongs is an issue for many older homes and businesses, but one that can often be effectively addressed with rendering in Enfield by Licata Building Solutions.

When the temperature drops to 0 or below and the wind is howling out of the north a poorly insulated home will leak heat into the atmosphere as fast as it produces it. As a result, homeowners wind up paying outrageous energy bills while at the same time having to bundle up while eating dinner. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Licata Building Solutions provide an array of rendering systems that wrap buildings in an insulating blanket that keeps expensive heated air inside where it belongs. At the same time, there are Licata rendering systems which, in addition to making a home or business more energy-efficient, also bolster its structural integrity.

Overview of Licata Rendering Enfield

Licata Building Solutions have more than 50 years of experience producing and distributing world-class rendering products throughout the UK and Europe. Our industry-leading BBA and ETA-certified rendering products are renowned for their ease of use, affordability and effectiveness. The following are some of our most popular rendering systems.

Monocouche Rendering

The French term “monocouche” translates roughly to “one coat” and accurately describes this type of Licata rendering. Enfield home and business owners who opt for a monocouche render will enjoy long term relief on their energy bills and they will not have to invest time and treasure every few years in painting since the monocouche render is through-coloured. This type of render is also hydrophobic and will resist mould and algae.

Plaster Rendering

Plaster as a building material has been with us since the time of the ancient Greeks. It endures because it is versatile, affordable, easy to apply and highly durable. Plaster renders have the added benefit of adhering to any substrate, drying quickly, resisting moisture and repelling algae and mould. Importantly, plaster is light enough that it will not present an undue burden on older walls and it is available in a multitude of colours.

Thin Coat Rendering

The widespread appeal of our thin coat rendering systems is due to their cost-effective versatility. There are 3 different materials that form the basis of our thin coat systems: silicone, acrylic and mineral, with the different materials being indicated for different environmental conditions.

Silicone thin coats are commonly recommended in areas where dampness is pervasive. They keep moisture at bay and resist mould and algae. Flexible acrylic thin coat renders are typically recommended for older structures prone to subsidence. While mineral thin coats are typically applied in cold conditions due to their rapid drying time.

Coloured Rendering & Insulated Rendering Systems

Coloured Rendering Systems

Licata coloured rendering systems are affordable and easy to apply. They will help you bring your energy bills under control while simultaneously enhancing the kerb appeal of your home or business. These are through-coloured renders that will not fade, scratch or peel over time, and perhaps most importantly for some, they are available in more than 700 colours.

Insulated Rendering Systems

With older structures, there are often portions of the exterior that have suffered damage or which have simply degraded over time. These damaged areas not only compromise the energy profile of the home, they also undermine its structural integrity. An insulated rendering system by Licata can help.

DIYers who may be inclined to apply this type of sophisticated render themselves should resist the temptation. Because of the nature of the render, it should only be applied by a BBA certified contractor. If you are not sure how to find one the team at Licata can help.

FAQs

Is it okay to render a house in the rain?

Rendering a house in the rain – or if it is raining during the render’s drying period (typically 24 – 72 hours) – will usually ruin the render. Rain during application or curing can create textural issues, colour issues and even lime blooms. In the time leading up to the render both you and the contractor should keep an eye on the weather forecast. If rain is predicted to fall during application or drying then you should schedule a different time. Freezing weather can also negatively affect the outcome and should be avoided.

Can I render over my existing stone cladding?

In most cases the answer is “yes”. Exterior rendering is, in fact, often used to cover old stone and brick finishes. That said you should expect some challenges when rendering over existing brick or stone. For example, if the brick or stone is particularly bumpy you may have to apply an unusually thick layer of render material to achieve a flat, smooth finish. The best thing to do is to hire a contractor with plenty of experience rendering over stone and brick and let them do their thing.

Is planning permission required for exterior wall coatings?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It depends on whether or not the render process will fundamentally change the appearance of the house. If it will, you will probably need planning permission. In addition, if the house is a Listed Building you will almost certainly need planning permission. Ditto if your home is located in a Conservation Area such as a National Park. That said, for an average home if the render material will produce an appearance similar to the current appearance then the render may be considered “permitted development” and can proceed without planning permission.

Which lasts longer: an exterior paint job or a render?

A quality paint job can be expected to last about 6 or 7 years before it starts showing signs of age and will need to be repainted. A render on the other hand, particularly a colour-through render, will usually last 25-30 years before it needs to be redone. In some cases a bit longer.
