Features & Benefits

Why specify Top Layer 100 A+B polyurethane topcoat?

☀️

Non-Yellowing UV Resistant Polyurethane Topcoat

The aliphatic polyurethane resin formulation of this topcoat provides exceptional UV resistance with perfect colour retention over time — unlike aromatic polyurethanes which yellow. Dedicated R&D investment from Licata's laboratories ensures long-term colour stability.

💪

Superior Wear & Abrasion Resistance

This polyurethane topcoat delivers high mechanical and surface resistance — outstanding impact and abrasion resistance makes it suitable for walkable surfaces including terraces, balconies and industrial floors subject to regular foot traffic and wear.

🧪

Chemical Resistance

Resistant to fresh and salt water, detergents, diluted acids and active chlorine (max 0.5% in water) — this polyurethane topcoat is suitable for use in marine, industrial and swimming pool environments where chemical exposure is a concern.

🌡️

Elastic from -30°C to +90°C

Top Layer 100 A+B polyurethane topcoat retains all its properties across a service temperature range of -30°C to +90°C — significantly wider than standard polyurethane topcoats and suitable for the most demanding thermal environments.

🎨

Full RAL Colour Range

This polyurethane topcoat is available in any RAL colour — allowing complete freedom of colour specification for exposed waterproofing applications, terraces, balconies and decorative floor coatings.

Fast Dry — Second Coat in 12 Hours

Touch dry in just 2 hours and ready for a second coat after 12 hours at 20°C — this polyurethane topcoat keeps projects moving without long waiting times between coats.

Product Description

Top Layer 100 A+B — Aliphatic Polyurethane Topcoat

Top Layer 100 A+B is Licata's two-component aliphatic polyurethane topcoat — the protective and decorative finishing layer for Licata waterproofing systems and cement-based substrates. Its aliphatic formulation, based on latest-generation resins, delivers non-yellowing UV resistance, exceptional elasticity, and outstanding mechanical surface resistance including impact and abrasion — even in extreme weather conditions.

This polyurethane topcoat is the recommended final layer over Licalastic 150 PU polyurethane waterproofing membrane, providing long-term colour stability, wear resistance and chemical protection that a waterproofing membrane alone does not offer. It can also be applied directly to cement-based substrates with the appropriate primer.

Top Layer 100 A+B polyurethane topcoat is supplied as a pre-dosed two-component system — component A (10kg) plus component B (3kg) — mixed together at a ratio of 1:0.3 by volume. Pot life is 4 hours at 20°C, and full hardening is achieved after 10 days.

Mixing

Mixing Top Layer 100 A+B polyurethane topcoat

1
Pre-dosed system: Top Layer 100 A+B is supplied as pre-dosed components. Add the entire contents of component B to the container of component A — do not attempt partial mixes.
2
Mixing: Mix at low speed (max 300 rpm) for at least 3 minutes with a drill mixer until a perfectly uniform, lump-free mixture with an even colour is achieved.
3
Transfer and remix: Transfer the mixed polyurethane topcoat into a clean empty container and slowly remix for a further minute. This ensures thorough mixing from the sides and bottom of the original container.
4
Pot life: Use the mixed polyurethane topcoat within 4 hours at 20°C / 50% RH. Discard any product remaining after this time — do not attempt to apply expired material.
Application

Applying the polyurethane topcoat

1
Substrate preparation: Remove all flaking parts and clean thoroughly. Substrate must have pull-out resistance of at least 1.5 MPa. Apply the appropriate primer before the polyurethane topcoat.
2
Application: Apply this polyurethane topcoat by brush, roller or airless spray at 150 g/m² per coat — avoiding drips and product build-up. For airless: 0.019–0.021 inch nozzles at minimum 120 bar.
3
Second coat: Apply the second coat of polyurethane topcoat after at least 12 hours at 22°C / 50% RH. Two coats are standard for full protection.
4
Curing: Deep hardening is achieved after 48 hours. Full hardening after 10 days at 20°C. Protect the curing polyurethane topcoat from direct sunlight, strong wind and rain for at least 24 hours.
Two-component solvent-based product. Use PPE throughout — protect eyes and skin. Do not apply in extreme conditions (full sun or freezing temperatures). Temperature must be between +5°C and +35°C. 4 hour pot life — do not exceed.
