1. How long does the system typically last?

Our existing paint render system typically lasts 15 to 25 years when properly maintained. The silicone and acrylic render provide exceptional crack resistance and weather protection, so your exterior walls stay fresh for decades without the frequent repainting that standard masonry paints require.

The lifespan depends on weather conditions and substrate preparation, but our base coat and top coat combination ensures strong adhesion against minor movements and structural movement. We’ve seen render systems from the early 2000s still performing beautifully, which speaks to the long term durability built into every layer.

2. Can it be applied over textured or pebbledash render?

Yes, our existing render system works brilliantly over textured surfaces including pebbledash, provided the surface is solid and free from loose material. We apply a thin coat or build up of specialised base coat to smooth the texture, and a stiff brush removes any biological growth or dirt beforehand.

For heavily textured walls, we use our polymer render with fibreglass mesh to handle surface variations without fail. The system’s flexibility and strong adhesion transform tired pebbledash into a smooth, attractive finish that completely modernises the look.

3. What is the minimum temperature for application?

We recommend applying our existing paint render system when temperatures stay above 5°C for at least 48 hours after application. Cold weather conditions affect how the acrylic or cement render cures, and trapped moisture from condensation can compromise adhesion.

The primer and top coat especially need stable conditions to bond with the existing render. Summer and mild autumn typically offer the most reliable weather conditions, though our technical team monitors forecasts carefully to ensure each coat gets proper curing time year round.

4. How do I know if my existing render is suitable?

Tap the surface with your knuckles – if it sounds hollow, the render has failed and separated from the substrate. Run a stiff brush over the exterior walls to check if loose material comes away easily, and look for biological growth, staining, or damp patches.

Our survey team examines the existing paint or render for cracks and overall stability. If your current cement render, lime render, or painted surface is fundamentally sound without trapped moisture or structural movement, our cost effective system can go straight over it without expensive removal.

5. Does the finish require ongoing maintenance?

One of the biggest advantages of our highly breathable render systems is minimal maintenance compared to standard masonry paints. The water repellent and self cleaning properties of our silicone render and pre coloured finishes mean dirt doesn’t stick, and rain naturally washes the surface clean without frequent repainting.

We suggest an annual check and gentle brush down, though our crack resistance technology means issues are rare. The high breathability prevents moisture build up and damp problems, so you won’t see peeling or blistering like with one coat paint systems that trap moisture.

6. How long before the surface can be exposed to rain?

Our existing render system needs 24 to 48 hours of dry weather conditions after the final top coat application before it can handle rain. Each layer requires proper curing time, so we plan work around the forecast to protect that new coat of silicone render or acrylic while it sets.

Once fully cured, the water repellent properties kick in brilliantly. The surface handles heavy rain beautifully, channeling moisture away while the highly breathable substrate releases any trapped moisture, giving you long term protection and performance.
