Description

Licata Sil

Decorative coating in transpiring potassium silicates and mould-resistant paste, ideal for ETICS systems.

Main areas of use

It is particularly suitable to:
Decorate coat systems, especially in combination with highly transpiring panels such as rock wool, wood and cork. It is distinguished by its soft and uniform finish.

Recommended applications:
Covering and decoration of façades of all kinds (plasters, skim coats, etc.) with a waterproof finish. Resistant to mould attack and atmospheric agents and highly transpiring, it is ideal both indoor and outdoor.

  • Suitable substrates (indoors or outdoors):
  • Dehumidifying plasters
  • Thermal renders
  • Lime, cement or lime/cement-based plasters
  • Reinforced skim coats
  • Concrete both prefabricated and cast on site

Characteristics

The very high transpiring feature combined with water repellency makes it ideal in dehumidifying cycles.
The excellent fluidity reduces waste and improves workability.
The high adhesion strength ensures compatibility with all the most common substrates used in construction.
Conforms to UNI EN 15824 as a decorative polymer paste.
Wide choice of colours: compatible with the licatacolore2.0 folder.

Silicate Render Coating for Breathable Protection

Licata Sil is a silicate render coating formulated with potassium water glass and mould-resistant paste, delivering a breathable finish across various insulation systems. It is particularly suited to mineral wool EWI systems, wood fibre insulation, and dehumidifying substrates where vapour permeability and water repellency are required.

This thin coat render system offers a strong protective coating that stands up to UV rays, direct sunlight and weather exposure. Unlike traditional renders that trap moisture, silicate renders are highly breathable and help maintain wall performance over time.

The coating is ideal for both interior or exterior surfaces, providing a durable solution with consistent grain size distribution. Its natural mineral base, combined with evenly distributed colour pigments, ensures long-term stability and an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Where Silicate Renders Fit in Modern Building Systems

Silicate render sits firmly between mineral render and silicone silicate render systems in terms of breathability, flexibility and lifespan. It is widely used in modern external wall insulation systems, especially those based on mineral wool or breathable basecoat reinforcement layers.

Where thin coat render systems are required, Licata Sil offers reliable performance and application ease. It works well over lime/cement plasters, basecoat substrate primers and reinforced skim coats, forming part of a complete ETICS solution.

You can use silicate renders as either a standalone topcoat render or in combination with full EWI Pro insulation systems. As part of this process, make sure to mix prior to application, maintain the correct setting temperature, and avoid inconsistencies between mix tubs or different batches.

Key Benefits and Technical Strengths of Licata Sil

Licata Sil balances breathability, water resistance and adhesion strength, making it suitable for complex façade applications. It is ready to use straight from the tub, requiring no paddle mix or excessive prep.

Here are some of the main benefits and technical strengths that make this silicate render coating a reliable choice for professional installers and specifiers:

  • Ready to use: No need to paddle mix or combine with additives
  • Highly breathable: Supports vapour movement, ideal for damp or aged walls
  • 1.5mm grain: Uniform grain size delivers clean, smooth surface texture
  • Coloured render: Compatible with licatacolore2.0 folder, including Pantone colours
  • Durable: Resists mould, UV exposure and surface chalking
  • Certified: Complies with DIN 18363, UNI EN 15824, ETAG 004

This system ensures the final stage of rendering facades is both efficient and technically sound, particularly in environments requiring thin coat application and high vapour diffusion.

Professional Support and Colour Customisation Options

Licata offers full colour matching support with wide colour choices across standard colours, Pantone shades and licatacolore2.0. We supply tinted items ready to use, reducing inconsistencies and helping match the required texture and final colour palette to existing surfaces.

Our in-house team can help you select the correct render layer, base coat and finish to suit your substrate. Whether you’re applying on EWI Pro silicone silicate render base systems or looking for standalone decorative render solutions, we’re ready to support you.

From silicone paint topcoats to ready mix render solutions in silicone render buckets, we offer flexible combinations that meet every site demand while keeping maintenance costs and downtime low.
